The first week of scrimmages with the Mustang Broncos Varsity Fastpitch team was a great way to get the season started. We faced three tough opponents—Dale, Washington, and Carl Albert—and finished the week with three wins.
Mustang Broncos win 5-2
We opened the week against Dale with a 5-2 victory. I pitched three innings and allowed two runs while striking out one and walking none. I was able to throw 68.1% strikes and consistently work ahead in the count, getting to pitcher’s counts in eight of my 13 batters.
One of my favorite moments came in the top of the second inning when I helped turn a double play with no outs, giving our defense an opportunity to quickly get out of the inning. I also did not allow a leadoff walk during my three innings and showed patience at the plate, with 5.0 pitches at my plate appearance. I went 1-for-1 offensively.
Mustang Broncos win 6-0
Against Washington, our team put together a strong 6-0 shutout. I pitched 2⅓ innings and did not allow a run, striking out four batters without issuing a walk.
I was able to generate a lot of swings and misses, recording nine swinging strikes on 34 pitches. I also threw 73.5% strikes, which helped me stay aggressive and work efficiently. It was a great team effort, and it was exciting to contribute to a shutout victory.
Mustang Broncos win 16-5
I finished the week with a big 16-5 win over Carl Albert. I pitched three innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out three and walking none.
This was my most efficient outing of the week. I threw 86.3% strikes, going 22-for-19 in pitches to strikes, and recorded three swinging strikes on 22 pitches. I also did a good job getting ahead and finishing batters early, with seven of my 11 batters ending in early counts.
Going 3-0 in my first week of scrimmages was a great start for the Mustang Broncos. Personally, I was proud of the progress I made on the mound throughout the week—throwing strikes, limiting walks, getting ahead of hitters, and continuing to trust my pitches.
There is still plenty to work on as we prepare for the season, but this first week gave us a chance to compete, learn, and build chemistry as a team. I’m excited to keep improving and see what the rest of the season brings!
